Unlikely Duos: Rascal Flatts and Justin Bieber

Country band Rascal Flatts have been tearing up the country music scene for some time now with their trademark sweet style and awesome harmonies. On the other side of the music spectrum, young teen sensation Justin Bieber has stolen the world’s heart with his pop and hip-hop crossover hits like “Baby.” The two acts couldn’t have a more diverse sound, but it’s confirmed that the two have collaborated on a song called “That Should Be Me.” The song was used in Justin Bieber’s current movie, Never Say Never. Rascal Flatts and Justin Bieber recently reunited to create the music video for “That Should Be Me.” “That Should Be Me” features Rascal Flatts’ signature pacing and styling with Bieber’s sweet lyrics and trademark voice. While music critics were originally unsure about the mash-up, neither artist seems to have sacrificed more for the other’s style. “This Should Be Me” is currently available on the Never Say Never soundtrack.

The two have apparently developed a rapport, because lead singer from Rascal Flatts Gary LeVox apparently was the one to trim some of Bieber’s signature locks in his news-making haircut recently. Though LeVox gave the singer the primary haircut, Bieber’s normal stylist finished the haircut. Bieber plans on using his haircut for good: he’s using it to raise money for charity. One such recipient was hit talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who had tweeted about wanting a piece of Bieber’s hair. DeGeneres then put the singer’s locks up for sale on eBay. The proceeds of that sale will go to an animal rescue foundation.

Gary LeVox admitted that his daughters were more of a fan of Justin Bieber than they are of Rascal Flatts. His daughters, who are ten and six, do apparently appreciate the band’s work sometimes. Said LeVox, “My kids think the only thing I’ve done is ‘Cars,’ the ‘Hannah Montana’ movie, and now the duet with Justin Bieber. I’ve done three things in ten years!”

Will this breed further collaboration between the two hit artists? Why not? Rascal Flatts and Justin Bieber proved that teen hip-hop/country crossovers are in fact possible.
